Biblical Foods and The Bible Diet

Biblical foods are the accepted and healing food mentioned in the Bible. Jewish food recipes are part of the people who played a significant role in the Bible.

The Bible Diet is basically Bible foods that followed Jewish Dietary Guidelines and excludes the foods that were considered forbidden.

Biblical foods considered healing food was a little more than just fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds as some people have proclaimed.

Jewish food recipes include some of the most well known and popular among the Jewish people.


The Bible Diet and Jewish Legal Guidelines

All fruits and Vegetables are permitted, but must be free of bugs.

Nuts, seeds, legumes and grains are permitted.

You may eat seafood that has fins and scales such as salmon, tuna, cod, or herring.

Animals that have cloven hooves and chews its cud such as cattle, bison, lamb, sheep, venison, or goat are allowed.

Birds permitted are chicken, turkey, ducks, and geese.

The eggs and milk of permitted seafood and animals may be eaten.

The birds and mammals that may be eaten must be slaughtered in accordance with Jewish Law and must be Kosher.

Bible Foods and Kosher Foods



Kosher animals must be ritually slaughtered in order to remain Kosher.

This method of slaughter is quick and painless to the animal. It also ensures the most complete draining of the animal's blood.

Only those who are qualified and trained are allowed to perform this type of slaughter.

Forbidden Foods of The Bible Diet

The consumption of blood is forbidden! This applies to the blood of birds and mammals, but not to fish.

Rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and most insects are forbidden.

Camels, rabbits, and pigs are forbidden.

Shellfish such as lobsters, octopus, shrimp, clams, crabs, and oysters are forbidden.

Birds of prey or scavengers such as hawks, eagles, and vultures are forbidden.

All wine and grape juice not made under Jewish Supervision is forbidden.

Consuming meat and dairy together is forbidden.

Consuming the sciatic nerve in the hindquarters (which eliminates eating fillet mignon) and the fat surrounding animal organs is forbidden.

Jewish Food Recipes

Jewish food is a unique collection of cooking styles and Jewish cooking does have a Middle Eastern - Mediterranean - European influence.

Many of the foods proclaimed as Jewish are not unique to the Jewish people and do include dishes such as Falafel and Hummus which are very Egyptian!

Traditional Jewish Food Recipes

Matzah Ball Soup - dumplings in a chicken broth.

Gefilte Fish Recipe - a recipe traditionally served on Passover.

Ezekiel Bread Recipes - bread made from a variety of grains and legumes. This bread typically uses sprouted grains.

Latkes Recipe - a potato pancake recipe.

Stuffed Cabbage Recipes - cabbage leaves traditionally stuffed with rice and meat.

Lox and Bagels - fillets of salmon served on a bagel with cream cheese.
