Vegan Meals and Vegan Desserts
Vegan meals can be a great way to add something plant based into your diet. What Do Vegans Eat? Well there are lots of vegan foods to choose from!
I love the creativity that the Vegan world has brought to the consumption of plant based foods.
However, the Vegan Food Pyramid isn't much different then the Standard Food Pyramid. Something to think about??
Anyway, I love trying out vegan desserts - especially the ones that are made with chocolate.
What do Vegans Eat?
Vegetables
Fruits
Grains
Nuts & Seeds
Legumes & Beans
Vegans can eat plant based foods, but do not eat any dairy, meat, fish, or eggs. Some vegans won't even eat honey.
Vegan desserts can be a little tricky because you can't use butter, cream, or eggs.
A good replacement for these ingredients are coconut oil, coconut milk, nut milks, nut butters, and even coconut cream.
I found a great sweetener called palm or coconut sugar. It tastes great and it is a low glycemic sweetener.
Of course, using raw chocolate in your vegan desserts will make them a much happier treat. Chocolate does contain a lot of "Happy Brain" chemicals along with important minerals and antioxidants!
Vegan Food Pyramid resembles Standard Food Pyramid
There are some variations when it comes to the vegan food pyramid, but it generally matches the standard one with a couple of changes.
Basically, on the section where dairy & meat products are normally found - these foods are replaced with nuts, seeds, and legumes.
There are actually food pyramids which radically differ from the standard food pyramid. One in particular is the Harvard Food Pyramid and it places certain plant oils on the bottom of the food pyramid.
So it does come down to what you feel works best for your body and these pyramids are merely guides created from a particular group.
