Who invented chocolate anyway? Find out the place that chocolate originates from and what the first chocolate made was like.

One of the interesting facts about chocolate is that no one person can claim the credit as the inventor of this treat.

It originates in ancient cultures of Mexico and Central America. The first chocolate made was in the form of a drink.

Some scientists say the Aztecs and Mayans were the first to have used the cacao bean, and some say it was the Olmecs.

It is believed that chocolate which comes from the cacao bean and cacao plant or tree was grown somewhere between 1500 BC and 400 BC.

Early Spanish explorers discovered the cacao bean when visiting the ancient region during the 16th Century and brought it back to Europe.



First Chocolate Made was Spicy!

The first people known to have made chocolate were the Mayans and Aztecs. They mixed ground cacao beans with various spices to make a spicy drink.

Later, the Spanish explorers brought the cacao beans back home and created other recipes using sugar.

Chocolate became very popular and spread throughout the world. Today this creation is probably one of the worlds most popular treats.
