The Nightshade Family
Some of the most heavily promoted substances in the USA today belong to the nightshade family.
I liken the Nightshades to the "Dark Cabal" of the plant kingdom and they are probably "secretly" connected to the incredible number of health problems that exist in the USA today.
Not surprisingly, it has been found that when the nightshades were eliminated from the lives of certain people - a variety of mental and physical problems disappeared.
There are probably a couple of exceptions to the nightshades or "dark cabal" - not every member will be as toxic as the others. Now which ones those are will take some knowledge and investigation.
Members of The Nightshade FamilyPotatoes - French Fries, Mashed Potatoes, and Potato Chips
Tomatoes - Ketchup, Tomato Sauce, and Salsa
Peppers - Hot Sauce, Bell Peppers, Hot Peppers, Cayenne, Paprika, Chili Powder, and Pimentos
Tobacco - Cigarettes and Cigars
Goji Berries - Popular Berry of the Vegan Community
Kava Kava - Intoxicating Drink - used to help relieve anxiety
Food Additives - Potato Starch and Modified Potato Starch
Drugs - Many Medications contain Atropine - which is an alkaloid extracted from the Nightshade Family
Petunia - Popular Flower - I hope you didn't send these on Mother's Day!
Belladonna - the most Toxic Plant in the Western Hemisphere also known as Devil's Cherries
Other members of the nightshade family include eggplants, tomatillos, tamarillos, ground cherries, and cape gooseberry.
There are many more Nightshades, but these members are some of the most well known.
Poisons found in NightshadesAlkaloids are a major group of food toxins found in nightshade plants. They can have a big impact on your joints, your cardiovascular system, your bones & teeth, your cell membranes, and your digestive system.
These alkaloids are also considered to be neurotoxins - which means they will affect your brain and not in a good way.
These are some of the alkaloids found in nightshades:
Solanine - dangerous levels of this steroid alkaloid are found in the leaves of nightshades and in unripe fruit.
Solanine has fungicidal and pesticidal properties which is part of the plant's natural defense system against insects, etc.
Nicotine - nicotine is an addictive alkaloid that is found in high amounts in the leaves of the tobacco plant.
Nicotine can also be found in small amounts in potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, and sweet peppers.
Tomatine - glycoalkaloid that is found in tomato plants. Tomatine will be especially high in unripe tomatoes and has fungicidal properties.
Capsaicin - an alkaloid that is found in hot peppers. Capsaicin is an irritant which produces a burning sensation and is the active ingredient in Pepper Spray.
Health Problems associated with Nightshades
The Wrong Kind of Vitamin DThe most astonishing thing that I discovered was that nightshades produce vitamin D. Although not the good kind, but a problematic form of vitamin D.
Nightshades are known to cause calcinosis or the calcification of soft tissue. This is because nightshades produce the most active form of vitamin D - no not vitamin D3.
Vitamin D3 is cholecalciferol and the nightshades produce calcitriol or 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol. Calcitriol is an extremely potent hormone and is thousands of times more potent than vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol.
Basically, calcitriol increases your ability to absorb calcium. The problem is that too much calcitriol can lead to hypercalcemia or high blood calcium.
Your body will then need to dump this excessive amount of calcium from your blood.
This will lead to calcium deposits in soft tissues such as your cardiovascular tissues, kidneys, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, muscles, or skin.
With enough time and consumption - the nightshades will circumvent your kidney's control of calcitriol. In other words it will take this job away from your kidneys - very dark cabalish!
Bottom line - consuming nightshades can result in the loss of calcium from your bones and teeth. This calcium will then be turned into calcium deposits in your soft tissues - which will then lead to calcification health problems.
Some GuidelinesUse sweet potatoes and yams instead of potatoes. If you have potatoes - store them in a dark place.
Use peppercorns, wasabi, and ginger instead of hot peppers for some added heat to your food.
Cooking nightshades can possibly reduce these harmful alkaloids by 40 to 50%.
Avoid green nightshades such as green potatoes, green tomatoes, and green peppers as they will contain more toxic alkaloids.
Vine ripened tomatoes will have the lowest alkaloid content and tomatoes harvested when green will have higher levels.
Increasing vitamin K2 can help suppress the calcification of your soft tissues. Good sources of vitamin K2 are Grass fed meats, milk, cheese, and butter. Vitamin K2 can also be found in egg yolks, sauerkraut, and kimchi.
Caffeine does some of the same damage to your body as the Nightshades and it is probably not a good idea to have a gigantic cup of coffee while eating a big bowl of pasta marinara - just saying.
